Clear Start Assessment

Introduction

Microgynon Tablets are a combined oral contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. This well-established daily contraceptive contains two hormones – ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel – which are synthetic versions of the natural oestrogen and progesterone found in the female body. Microgynon is widely prescribed in the UK due to its effectiveness, ease of use, and additional benefits such as improved menstrual regularity and reduction in period pain.

How It Works

Microgynon works through a threefold mechanism. Firstly, it stops the ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulation). Secondly, it thickens the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach an egg. Thirdly, it alters the uterine lining, reducing the likelihood of implantation if fertilisation does occur. These combined actions make Microgynon over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken correctly and at the same time each day.

Why Choose Microgynon Tablets

Microgynon Tablets for birth control are trusted by millions of women globally. They offer reliable, reversible contraception and can be easily incorporated into a daily routine. Beyond preventing pregnancy, Microgynon may also provide cycle control, reduce heavy or painful periods, and help manage hormonal acne in some users. The 21-day tablet cycle, followed by a 7-day break or placebo phase, mimics a natural period and offers predictable bleeding patterns. When taken as prescribed, it provides peace of mind and continuous protection.

Important Note

Microgynon contraceptive pill is suitable for many women but may not be appropriate for those with a history of blood clots, certain cancers, migraines with aura, or uncontrolled high blood pressure. A consultation is required before starting the pill. Microgynon does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It should be stored below 25°C, in its original packaging, and kept out of reach of children. Always read the patient leaflet before use and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you miss a pill or experience any side effects.
